Turner is currently averaging 31 points
per game thru 16 games this season, and is the 9th best all-time scorer
South Jersey history at 2,514 career points. Although he is clearly
the leader on the Sterling squad, Turner knows that he can't do it all
himself, and that his teammates will be need to be factors in the playoff
push.
"The whole team will be stepping
up," said Turner. "We have some sophomores and a couple juniors
that hadn't played varsity ball. When they step it up for us, we'll
be a great team, and I think we'll have some success come playoff time."
Dave Cogan, a 6'7" junior center
and junior guard Danny Terrell will be important players in Sterling's
quest. Jermaine Funches, Vince Taylor and Nick Rebecca will also be
counted on to provide some pop in all aspects of the game.
Turner, who has already signed a letter
of intent to play at UNLV next season, has expressed some concern regarding
the status of that decision.
"It's definitely shaky. It depends
on if Rick Pitino gets the job or not. I don't have anything against
him (Pitino). UNLV is the school that I picked and I just hope that
it goes well, but this season is far from over. I have visions of us
doing very well this year," said Turner. "Those visions aren't
about to fade. I'm ready to play. I'm always ready to play."
